The Dodge Hornet R/T Plus is an interesting attempt to bring Dodge performance ethos to the compact PHEV crossover segment, but the execution falls short of the brand promises. The combined 288 horsepower from the turbocharged four-cylinder and electric motor sounds respectable, and the PowerShot boost feature is a fun gimmick. The 33 miles of electric-only range is useful for daily commuting. However, the driving experience does not match the aggressive marketing -- the steering feels disconnected, and the chassis tuning prioritizes comfort over the sporting dynamics Dodge implies. Build quality and interior materials have drawn criticism, with some trim pieces feeling flimsy for the price. The 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 system works well, though. At around 42 thousand dollars, the Hornet R/T Plus faces stiff competition from the Toyota RAV4 Prime, which offers better build quality, reliability reputation, and similar performance. Dodge enthusiasts may appreciate the attitude, but the substance does not fully back it up.
