At just 440 kg, this is the lightest production car you can buy, and despite having only 84 horsepower from its tiny Suzuki-derived three-cylinder turbo, the power-to-weight ratio delivers genuine sports car thrills. Every input is magnified -- the unassisted steering requires muscle but rewards with extraordinary feedback, the brakes need a firm push but stop the featherweight chassis with authority, and the short-throw manual gearbox clicks through its five ratios with mechanical precision. On a twisting back road, the 170R can embarrass cars with four times the power and ten times the price. The compromises are part of the charm: there is no roof, no heater, barely any weather protection, and climbing in requires the flexibility of a gymnast. It is impractical, uncomfortable, and completely wonderful. For pure driving joy per dollar spent, the Seven 170R may be the most rewarding car money can buy.
