The Subaru Solterra Touring is a competent electric SUV that brings Subaru all-weather heritage to the EV space, but it does not stand out in an increasingly competitive segment. The dual-motor AWD system is standard, and the X-MODE with grip control provides genuine confidence on slippery surfaces -- a meaningful advantage for Subaru traditional customer base. The Harman Kardon audio, StarTex water-repellent upholstery, and EyeSight safety technology are welcome features. However, the 228-mile range is below average for the class, the 215-horsepower output makes acceleration feel merely adequate, and the co-developed-with-Toyota platform does not deliver the engaging driving dynamics that would differentiate the Solterra from its competitors. Interior design is functional but lacks inspiration, and the infotainment system can be sluggish. At approximately 49 thousand dollars, the Solterra Touring is reasonably priced but faces fierce competition from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Chevrolet Equinox EV, which offer more range and more engaging driving experiences for similar money.
