The Nissan Ariya NISMO injects genuine sporting intent into what was previously a competent but uninspiring electric crossover. The NISMO treatment goes beyond cosmetics -- the retuned suspension, enhanced steering calibration, and performance-oriented e-4ORCE AWD system create a noticeably sharper driving experience than the standard Ariya. The 389 horsepower dual-motor setup provides strong acceleration, and the independent axle control enables genuine torque vectoring that adds agility. The NISMO-specific styling elements are tasteful rather than garish, and the interior gains sport seats and unique trim details. The 270-mile range is adequate if not outstanding, and the Ariya's comfortable cabin and user-friendly technology carry over from the standard model. However, the Ariya NISMO faces a fundamental challenge: at $58,000, it competes with the Tesla Model Y Performance and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, both of which offer more dramatic performance experiences. The weight is felt through corners, and the NISMO chassis tuning, while improved, does not transform the Ariya into a genuine sports crossover. It is a better Ariya rather than an outstanding performance EV.
